The Gucci Marmont Supermini, as its name suggests, is smaller than the regular Marmont, measuring 16.5cm (L) x 10.2cm (W) x 5cm (H).
Appearance – the real Marmont is full and straight, neither too bulky nor too flat, and the leather is light, soft, and supple. The replica on the other hand is slightly flatter, and uses hard, grainy leather.
Hardware – you can feel the craftsmanship on the authentic hardware, which is a matte, rustic bronze. The center of the double G logo has a dark green, black mark where the two Gs (which are never uneven!) meet, and the metal deposits are negligible. The replica hardware is much brighter, with a less matte finish compared to the real version. The color is also slightly different, although both versions use a ‘retro’ bronze. While craftsmanship and hardware color are good indicators, the quality of the craftsmanship is always more telling.
The heart on the back should be flat to the touch, with strong, consistent stitches and a good arc around the edges. In this case, the replica heart is wider and hard to the touch.
The label inside the bag should feature a heavily embossed logo on the leather tag. As you can see from the picture, the replica has a lighter embossing and the font is bigger.
On the real bag, the button fastener has the clear GUCCI text on it, and the letters are different. ‘G’ and ‘CC’ are heavier on the left and lighter on the top and bottom, while the ‘U’ is thicker on the left and thinner on the right. The replica tries to imitate this but the appearance is much less polished.
