Real vs Replica

adidas Superstar Cloud White Core Black

adidas Superstars are some of the most widely copied sneakers. Their replicas are so well produced that even consignment stores may not pick up on them right away. This op-ed piece compares REAL VS REPLICA adidas Superstar Cloud White Core Black, which was released in 2018.

Both real and replica shoes have a "YYA" label to indicate this model was manufactured in a particular factory in Dongguan, China. First, the layout of the label on the replica is wrong - it was printed in the newer 2019 format which uses a different font for the letter "E" in the word "MADE".

Insoles of Superstars usually have hot stamped "adidas" logos that repeat in a diagonally across direction. The logo stamp on the real shoe is rounder and blends subtly on to the insole. As you can see on the replica, the logo stamps are more deliberate and obvious. The real insole also has a matte finish, while the replica has a shinier finish.

Most Superstars use glue on the back of the insole, which is brushed on in one flat stroke or in multiple strips. To shorten the manufacturing process, the replica skipped this step and does not have glue on the back of its insole.

To prevent replicas from catching up, we won't disclose all the details here. If you have questions or a pair that needs authenticating, head over to the LEGIT app where our sneaker experts can get back to you.
