Supported layouts are NN-LL-NNNN and LL-NNNN. In the final four digits, positions 1 and 3 form the month; positions 2 and 4 form the year. Leading digits are excluded from the calculation. An unknown letter pair, impossible month or future reading stays inconclusive without a date or country estimate.
